Portland Airport to See Ground Transportation and Parking Rate Increases

It is about to get more expensive to park, grab an Uber or Lyft, or hail a taxi or shuttle when traveling to and from Portland International Airport.

 

Beginning June 11, a change in rates for all of these transit services will go up in an effort to generate more revenue for essential costs associated with maintaining and operating ground transportation services and facilities. An official statement issued by the airport said that these increases will also be used to pay for current and future capital projects needed to increase parking facilities and improve the roadways in and out of the airport.

 

The rate increases were released on Wednesday by the Port of Portland. According to Port authorities, approximately 25,000 vehicles use the main thoroughfare, Northeast Airport Way, on a daily basis. Officials say that parking rates in garages near the airport have not seen a rate increase in four years, while the Economy Parking Lot has not had a rate hike in almost a decade.

 

Although the hourly rate of the Economy Parking Lot will not change, the maximum price per day will increase to $12, a jump of $2. The long-term garage parking will jump from $21 per day to $24. Passengers looking to get around the rate increases by taking Lyft or Uber will also be hit with price increases. Shared-ride users will experience a $3 pick-up or drop-off fee, while taxi rates and on-demand shuttles rise $1 per trip, up to $3.50 from the previous $2.50.
